Remington Steele 4x01-2
Dec. 25th, 2012 09:37 pmMiners! Striking, bank robbing, radical killer miners! With what must be the worst assassination plan in the history of the universe. It's so bad that they know it's so bad that they hire someone to make up a plan for them that involves hiring someone else to do the actual shooting and then they attempt to assassinate the assassin and do the shooting themselves anyway...with a crossbow. No wonder Thatcher won.
It's awesomely hilarious anyway. I mean, I stopped watching this at some point like one watches...say, Elementary or even Castle, and am now watching it like one watches something like Pushing Daisies or even Middleman (But with more (more!) sexual tension). But, to be honest, Pushing Daisies and Middleman are much rarer, weirder and more precious beasts than Elementary, so that's even better, as far as i'm concerned.
And passports! And father figures and making up father figures. And Laura's hats and Laura fighting Jack the Ripper and just Laura in general. Even when it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous with panache. (Daniel!) And heart, oh heart. I even felt for Mildred in this one. And, seriously (yes, i'm shallow) scruffy Steele? Good grief, hot. Scruffy and bleeding but still smiling, and it's the saddest grin ever but it's a grin. Heart.

/shallow.
BTW, you know that actress - his ex-lover, the criminal? Who also played a couple of roles in earlier episodes? Was Brosnan's real life wife. She died of cancer; apparently it was incredibly traumatic for him.

re - Yeah, I read it someplace (...probably Wikipedia) and it makes all the episodes she's in really meta-sad. I think she was at her finest in this one so far, just magnificently bitchy. And Ephraim Zimbalist - Chalmers - is SZ's father? And I think this is the only episode that has all four of them? It's all a bit weirdly incestuous and disconcerting. I usually don't really conflate characters and actors and previous roles and that sort of thing (Well, ok, Cabin in the Woods is that movie where Fred and Topher and Josh Lyman get to meet Cthulhu) but when it's relashionship's that close it's hard to un-see.
