Being a Grownup Things
Dec. 1st, 2013 09:31 amI fail at all that. I have a day off for Hannukah, and I'm a bit sick, and there's nothing pressing to do. My neighbours are making a racket, and the construction site is making a bigger racket, and that makes reading or working impossible, and I completely did social, friendship, real-life, shared physical space, interaction things all day yesterday, (whole weekly quota right there!) so i'm just going to vegetate in bed watching stuff. (Maybe go to the pool at some point. Maybe not.)
So, what should I watch? I will watch anything you want (1 episode, at least) and very, very probably talk about it.
Current possibilities include:
- Blake's 7: dunno how many times i've started it, but the slowness and low production values are a bit of a chore to get through, but I recognize that that's not the heart of the thing.
- Twin Peaks: I have no clue what this is about, but it's often mentioned in a breath with things I like. And it's got that guy who's that guy that I like?
- The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Haven't ever probably rewatched the whole thing since it was cancelled. It lives on in my memory as one of the perfectest shows ever, so i'm a little cautious about revisiting, else it disappoint.
- Once Upon a Time: I watched until about half of season 1 at some point...

Also, the low production values do sometimes deliver in terms of hysterically funny special effects right in the middle of deadly serious things, which is... quite something. The Michelin Men particularly.
Twin Peaks is one of those things I always mean to watch as well.

Date: 2013-12-01 01:51 pm (UTC)The first few episodes of B7 in particular do involve a lot of setting up and while the first episode is actually very good and gritty, it's atypical. Jumping to episode 6 if you lose patience with the first few is a slight get-out; it gets into its stride there and introduces its main villains. (As I said, there's a lot of setting up and episode 5 is weird. Even for B7, I mean. Of course, I like it...)
Of course, it takes a while to accustom yourself to watching old tv, and I can't blame anyone for not wanting to do that for fun, when there's more media out there to consume than anyone can manage!
But, yes. I love Blake's 7 to pieces - it's snarky, bleak, tacky, ridiculous, genuinely tragic, and strangely addictive.
