I think this might have been my brilliant idea...

Galaxy Quest, you are adorkable and watchable and you made me happy and you win. Man, just this scene...

I KNEW IT! It's another interesting movie in my recent spate of discussions of fannishness - Big Bang Theory, Ready Player One - this one is on our side. It reminds me of an article from years and years ago (that I can no longer find, but I remember the phrase) about the - at the time - only SFF convention there was in Israel. The reporter came back bemused, but said: "I saw happy people." Also, GQ doesn't toss good pace, story and a bit of characterization out of the window with the jokes, and that counts for a lot.

Iron Sky (ie, the Nazi's from the Moon Movie,) you have a few decent gags and some cool wtf, but you are terribly paced and characterized. We just all ended up looking up thing things on wikipedia on our phones by the time you were done.
There is virtually no character work here except some very, very broad (and mostly unfunny) satire. James Washington is terrible, (holy mother of god, that whiteface makeup is...I don't even know. Terrible visually, and i'm sure it's racist somehow. Just uncomfortable to watch, and not in a good way,) and he's the nominal hero. Fortunately, the story focuses more on Renata, but it's not like she gets a lot more personality. The campaign manager is kind of excellent, and I found myself oddly attached to her romance with Klaus. They honestly seemed like they could have had some kind of mad, evil, genuine thing, and then she kills him with a spaceship. I'd watch that movie, unfortunately it's just a badly integrated subplot here.

Spaceballs, I don't get you at all. It might be too long since i've seen Star Wars, or it's just not my type of humor or the references are too far away from me. Nothing more to say.
