Remington Steele 2x08
Dec. 4th, 2012 09:22 pm08 - "Scene Steelers" - hm.
Kind of a weird layering with the assault on Laura. It's played a bit lightly but then the show takes her side, I think, and shows her genuinely shaken up by it, but when Steele confronts Vivian, it suddenly turns from outrage on her behalf and into "why are you putting the moves on my lady?," and later Steele takes his advice with the wooing. OTOH, he takes the advice Vivian himself hadn't bothered to follow, despite them being mirrored, (and he doesn't get her anything as sad as 'a sensible diamond'.)
And it's all about actors and people playing roles (the sweet little old lady who's a mean, underhanded businesswoman. I admit, I loled.) and being consumed not by their actual roles but by their own perceptions of themselves. Vivian is in thrall to his public "Eroll Flynn of the 80's" (my god has ever a phrase aged more badly?) image and Millie to her own self loathing, and woah, was that a turn into something really quite painful there for a bit, after the comedy.
And most of the mystery plot characters are women, which they didn't have to be and is nice just for the heck of it. And Steele gets to swing from a chandelier, which must have made him so happy and made me happy by extension.
09 - "Steele Knuckles and Glass Jaws" - OMG squee I love this show so much right now. *falls down*.
